DOT Physical

When you work for the Department of Transportation (DOT) you have to be on the road for countless hours. So it’s important that you maintain the best health possible while behind the wheel, traveling throughout the country. That’s why the law mandates that anyone driving a commercial motor vehicle receive a physical examination first. This medical examination is able to check for physical, mental and emotional problems that could potentially pose a threat to the drivers’ safety.

Getting your DOT physical

No one like surprises, so we make it easy to know what to expect when you come into our office for treatment. While we do have a walk-in clinic, if you want to save yourself from longer wait times you can schedule an appointment with our clinic to get your physical.

During your DOT physical we will sit down and discuss your full medical history to find out about previous surgeries, illnesses and diagnoses. We will also conduct a thorough physical exam. The physical exam will check for past injuries, vision and hearing problems, heart disorders, high blood pressure, diabetes, gastrointestinal issues, respiratory problems, etc. Lastly we will perform a urine test. Keep in mind that DOT performs random drug tests to ensure that drivers are being safe and responsible at all times while on the road.

In order to receive your CDL medical card you must be able to pass all of the DOT physical requirements. Remember that the results of your physical are good for two months. You will be given a copy of your results to keep for your own personal records. This certification should remain with you at all times while driving.

We need to be aware of any health problems you might have so we are able to clear you for your DOT position. If you have been diagnosed with any of these conditions, please let us know when you come in for your physical: a recent surgery, a current hernia, sleep apnea, recent back injury or if you filed a recent workers compensation claim.

If it’s time to schedule your DOT physical exam, then contact our office today at (732) 252-6128.
